Worldline transaction flow chart

The diagram above illustrates the end-to-end transaction flow of online credit card payments with Worldline Online Payments Gateway and the Payment Processor from the Merchant's Integrated Software Vendor Application (web or mobile).

Transaction flow and processing

#1

The Customer (cardholder) submits their online transaction & credit card information to the Merchant's ISV (Integrated Software Vendor) application either using Worldline's embedded Custom Checkout or Worldline's Hosted Checkout solutions. If credit card data is invalid, ISV's application sends back an error message.

#2

The Merchant's ISV Application secure server submits the transaction information to the Worldline Online Payments Gateway server using our Payment REST APIs.

#3

The Worldline Online Payments Gateway secure server does a preliminary fraud check on the card information. This depends on the fraud tools enabled by the merchant in their Worldline Online Payments merchant account. If the transaction passes preliminary check, they submit the transaction information to the Merchant's Payment Processor server.

#4

The Merchant's Payment Processor server submits the transaction to the Credit Card Network (a network of financial entities that communicate to manage the processing, clearing, and settlement of credit card transactions). The credit card networks that the Worldline Online Payments Gateway support are Visa, Visa Debit, MasterCard, MasterCard Debit, American Express, Discover, Diners & JCB. This is dependent on Worldline Online Payments Gateway certification with the Payment Processor.

#5

The Credit Card Network routes the transaction to the customer's Credit Card Issuer (ex. Wells Fargo, Bank of America, TD).

#6

The Credit Card Issuer approves or declines the transaction based on the customer's available funds and passes the transaction results, and, if approved, the appropriate funds back through the Credit Card Network.

#7

The Credit Card Network relays the transaction results & appropriate funds to the Merchant's Payment Processor.

#8

The Merchant's Payment Processor relays the transaction results to the Worldline Online Payments Gateway server.

#9

The Worldline Online Payments Gateway server relays the transaction results to the Merchant's ISV application.

#10

The customer (cardholder) receives an on-screen confirmation message, as well as an email confirmation from the Merchant's ISV application (via ISV's secure servers). The transaction information is recorded to the Merchant's ISV application, Worldline's Online Payments Gateway server and Payment Processor's server.

#11

The Merchant's Payment Processor deposits the appropriate funds for the transaction into their bank account . Deposit time depends on their Payment Processor.
